Bre Thurston-Un-Posed: A Lesson on Moments, Joy & Happiness
In the formative years of my business I went through the most difficult year of my life. My dad was dying of cancer, my husband was unemployed, we were broke, and I was our sole income provider. We lost everything to start anew and in that process I discovered the importance of authentic joy and happiness in photography. Learning how to step away from forced poses freed me to capture people just as they are. While I was scared and afraid in my personal life, I used photography to find joy. I had become obsessed with finding ways to get my clients to loosen up, be carefree, and have fun during their sessions with me. I adopted a method of un-posing...posing my clients and then infusing laughter and movement to capture the images that I ached for. These are the images that I wanted with my dad before he passed away. My mentality is what we do matters because it does, it really does. I want to talk about why that is, our responsibility as photographers, my methodology with unposing, and how to create a brand that literally bursts with happiness.

Integrated marketing takes it one step further by making sure the pitch/story/language (the "voice") is consistent across all platforms as well. This session will walk you through identifying your marketing goals and creating cross-platform / cross-content strategies to execute seamlessly against those goals.

"Are my pictures ready yet?"
"I let my newborn sleep for 5 hours this morning so they'd be wide awake for our newborn session"
"I want my pictures taken at 12 noon when the sun is super high because I like sunny photos."

Chances are... you've gotten one of these texts or emails from a client and felt your heart drop to your toes.  Chances are... you stressed and fretted trying to make the client happy with their irrational requests while silently cursing bitterly beneath your breath.   Chances are...you probably didn't make your expectations clear enough to begin with.

Let's face it- clients are like having a pre-teen daughter.  They think they know best and they think they know exactly what they want- but we know better.  By effectively managing the expectations of our clients, we can educate them to understand the why, when, and how much of our businesses.  We'll share with you the 5 effective steps we've taken to ensure that our expectations of our clients are clear, and that what they can expect from us is even clearer.  These simple, yet incredibly effective, processes have helped our company coast through a 70+ wedding year with shining reviews from our clients, referrals coming our way, and every wedding and session met contractually without avoiding client emails, making excuses, or hiding in our offices.  This business-driven class will leave you with an arsenal of tips, tricks, and strategies you'll be implementing the minute you leave the room!

Sandra Coan-Film Photography in a Digital World

Film Photography in the Digital Age

When digital photography came on the seen in the early 2000s, it was believed that film would wither and die.  However, over the past several years the photography industry has seen a renewed interest in this classic medium.  Some of the world’s top wedding and portrait photographers swear by it.  And more and more, photographers are trading in their digital gear in favor of film.

So what is it about film that makes it so appealing?  Why are so many photographers turning back to it? Is film relevant in this digital age?

In this class I will answer those questions while diving into why I’ve made the switch back to film and how doing so has made my business stronger.  I’ll cover equipment, cost, labs and workflow, as well as how learning film will make you a better photographer, even if you choose not to use it in your business. I’ll also share some tips for those of you who a dying to give film a try!

Christina Ramirez-Color Matters
Color Matters:
Are you struggling to perfect your skin tones in camera? Do you feel like your images lack that "pop"? Do you spend way too much time "fixing" images in Photoshop? It can be a never-ending cycle, a very frustrating one for so many, I've been there. What changed the game for me was realizing how important colors mattered; colors in the clothes my clients wear, colors in the surroundings in which I shoot, how to properly adjust my white balance to off-set color tones, it all plays a part and helps eliminate a massive amount of time editing. So often we have so many things to focus on while we are out photographing our clients, that we don't realize the missing puzzle pieces until we are sitting in front of our computers fed up with how our skin tones look muddy and washed out, or why our images seem flat when technically it's all correct. I'm going to go over my formula and how I prepare my clients to wear the right colors to match their skin tone and why that's so important. I'm also going to back to the elementary art class and share why color rocks my world and how it's going to rock yours! I cannot wait to meet you in my Color Matters course!

Megan Kuethen-The Power of Story
The Power of Story: Since the beginning of mankind, we've been telling stories. Your mom may have called them lies when you were younger, and your friends might've called them fish tales, but don't let that discourage you. Stories are the most powerful and authentic way to market, and they ensure that your brand is always unique. We'll cover exactly how to find your own story and tell it in a brilliant and beautiful way that attracts your ideal clients (and makes everyone else leave you alone).
